KEILOR and St Albans residents will save on petrol and train fares and possibly get some exercise as Brimbank City Council goes on the road.
The council agreed at Tuesday night’s ordinary council meeting to hold the next two general purpose advisory committee meetings away from the usual site in Sunshine.
The 9 October meeting will now be held at the Errington Community Centre at 7pm, while the 13 November one will be held at the Keilor municipal offices at 7pm.
Councillor Natalie Suleyman said she was very supportive of taking council meetings to other locations. There were always a few people who attended who had a disability and required the assistance of a lift.
“This gives the opportunity for residents of Brimbank who can not all come to or access Sunshine,” Cr Suleyman said.
“In the past, we’ve had (ordinary) council meetings conducted outside Sunshine.”
However, Cr Marilyn Zukalski raised the issue of the lack of lifts at the Keilor municipal offices for people with disabilities, considering the number of people who already attended council meetings at Sunshine and needed to use the lift.
The council’s business and community relations general manager, Steve Crawcour, said he would look into the issue.
Crs Ken Capar and Jenny Barboza asked council officers to look into holding a committee meeting in the Grasslands Ward some time in the new year.
