FOUL smells from a green waste recycling plant in Brooklyn are expected to stop when some of the plant’s waste is diverted to another landfill.
An agreement between the Western Region Waste Management Group (WRWMG) and Organic Recyclers will see the waste taken to another green waste processing centre in Deer Park for the next two years.
The decision comes after residents made numerous complaints about the smell.
WRWMG representative from Brimbank, councillor Ken Capar, said the waste would not be dumped but processed at the site from 1 July.
“We have reached a satisfactory outcome for the Western Region after many issues in relation to the smell coming from the Organic Recyclers facility,” Cr Capar said.
He added that the new process would not cost residents extra money.
Three councils, including Brimbank and Maribyrnong, will have their waste diverted to the new site, he said.
