THE Victorian Women’s Football League (VWFL) has announced the line-up for this year’s Mother’s Day clash between Country and Metro at the MCG this weekend, with a respectable contingent from the St Albans Spurs making the cut.
Victorian Women’s Football League president Debbie Lee was one of six players from the Spurs to be selected for one of the two sides, while Bernie Marantelli will stand at the helm of the country team as the 2007 coach.
The cream of the crop was selected from two gruelling try-out sessions, with the newly formed teams holding their first and last training session on Monday night at Diamond Creek’s Coventry Oval.
The match will be held as a curtain-raiser to Sunday’s round seven AFL match between Carlton and Collingwood.
