SUNSHINE bowler Billy Tanasiciuc is hunting a second top 10 finish at the rich AMF Australian Ten Pin Bowl Open at the Sunshine Bowls Centre this weekend.
Tanasiciuc collected $800 in prize-money for his eighth placing last year and expects to be around the same mark when the wealthy $21,000 tournament kicks off on Saturday.
The top bowlers from across Australia will converge on the centre all trying to earn a share of the cash.
“If you have a good weekend then it can definitely be worth your while,” Tanasiciuc said.
“I’m feeling pretty good but you just have to wait and see how you’re feeling on the day.
“I usually know from the first two or three games how I’m going to fare by how confident I am with my shot and how the lanes are treating me.
“Different bowlers bowl better in different lanes and different conditions and I’m no different.”
Tanasiciuc will have his work cut out if he wants to improve on his 2006 placing with defending champion David Porto competing again.
Australian representatives Mac Stewart, Glen Loader, Paul Trotter and Chris Benson are also likely to finish the tournament strongly.
“The AMF Australian Open is one of the biggest events on the ten pin bowling calendar,” tournament director Brett Best said.
“Bowlers competing in this tournament look at the event as the benchmark for the season,” Best said.
“The prize money for the competition indicates the importance of the event and guarantees the best bowlers are rewarded for their performance.
“We have a fantastic mix of local and interstate bowlers and we feel this kind of participation shows what an exciting future we have for bowling tournaments in Australia.”
The open will run from 7-9 April.
