Brimbank gets set to party hard

By Michael Newhouse
THIS year’s Brimbank Festival is shaping up to be a cracker, with renowned Australian comedian Dave Hughes and comedy duo the Scared Weird Little guys only a couple of the main attractions on show when the festival kicks off on Sunday.
Thousands of people are expected to turn out this Sunday 19 November to Errington Reserve and Community Centre to take part in the festivities, which will begin at midday and will conclude at 9pm with a fabulous fireworks show that’s set to light up the St Albans night sky.
On the main stage, punters will have the chance to see the battle of the bands, the Brimbank Idol final and ABBA tribute band Bjorn Again, among scores of other entertainment events on across the grounds all afternoon.
For the kids, the children’s Star marquee will offer an interactive puppet show and magical storytelling, while elsewhere around the grounds there will be rides for adults and children all afternoon, free from midday until 1pm.
Brimbank mayor Natalie Suleyman has promised it will be a day to remember, and she called for families all around the area to come down and enjoy the festival.
To celebrate Brimbank’s cultural diversity, the festival will include performances from a range of world music performers and dancers, including Celtic-inspired The Shenanigans, Middle-Eastern Yalla, along with many others.
Having had the chance to sit in on last week’s Brimbank Idol auditions, Star can recommend the Idol finals, which will be a great chance to see some of Brimbank’s best and brightest fight for their right to Idol.
Star is a Brimbank Festival sponsor and will be there on Sunday to get the low-down on what happened on the day, with stories and photographs for next Tuesday’s edition.
