A FREAK storm hit Taylors Hill last Thursday night blowing off roof tiles and sending an air-conditioner flying.
Lance Jennison, SES central region senior emergency management officer, said a “micro burst” passed through Taylors Hill at 10pm.
“It took off the tiles from roofs of quite a few houses in Taylors Hill-Hillside, which is the north end of Caroline Springs, but it was all over very quickly,” Mr Jennison said.
He said the storm affected a 500-metre radius, and six trucks with 20 Melton SES volunteers were called out to help residents.
Melton Shire deputy-mayor Justin Mammarella, whose house was directly in the line of the storm, said he saw trees ripped out of the ground and heard that an air conditioning unit was blown off a roof.
“There was total calm, and it was as though a tsunami came to Taylors Hill,” Cr Mammarella said.
He paid tribute to a resident who offered to help his neighbours.
“He came out of his house and knocked on people’s doors and asked if they had any damage. He pulled a ladder out and got on top of people’s roofs and started putting tiles back on.”
