Cavaliers off the top

THE Green Gully Cavaliers have dropped from first to third on the Foxtel Cup ladder after a disappointing third-round loss against Heidelberg United on Sunday night.
After a slow 0-0 first half, Heidelberg’s Nicholas Marinos kicked the game up a notch with a goal three minutes into the second half, followed by Andy Vlahos scoring shot 15 minutes later.
The Cavaliers’ Kristijan Ivesic got one in for the side, but it was a case of too little too late and the game ended 2-1.
The loss was the Cavaliers’ first for the season and marked a heartbreaking end to an otherwise victorious week when the side overcame the Sunshine Georgies 2-0 on Labour Day.
In other games, a last-minute goal from Oakleigh Cannons’ Esala Masi forced a draw in the team’s clash against the Sunshine Georgies.
The sides finished the match 2-2 despite the Georgies being two goals up at half-time.
Meanwhile, the newly reformed Western Suburbs fared marginally better in its 0-0 draw with Melbourne Knights.
The draw is a positive move for the new side, which succumbed to its opposition in the opening two rounds of play.
