Two in a row for Suburbs

By Charlene Gatt
THE Western Suburbs have racked up their second consecutive win of the Football Federation Victoria Foxtel Cup season with a 1-0 victory over Richmond at Ralph Reserve on Sunday.
The side followed up round 10’s maiden win with a well-aimed penalty shot coming off the boot of Ricardo Castro in the 85th minute.
Both teams failed to capitalise on easy opportunities to score in the first half and resumed the match eager to up their defensive efforts.
The revamped line-ups created fewer and fewer breaks at goal until Richmond keeper Stuart Webster handed the Suburbs a golden opportunity with five minutes to go.
At Grange Reserve, Sunshine Georgies also tasted success in their 1-0 encounter against Kingston City.
The Georgies were ruthless in their pursuit of Kingston, with the side awarded yellow cards left, right and centre as the players upped the ante.
After a tight first half the Georgies struck in the 51st minute when Kingston goalkeeper Barry Andrews found himself outside the goal square as the ball found the net thanks to some quick thinking by Anthony Magnacca.
Desperately seeking an equaliser, Kingston tried to make the most of a penalty shot, but Jim Latinopoulos kicked straight into the hands of Georgies goalkeeper Martin John.
In other Foxtel Cup action, the Oakleigh Cannons held onto top spot with a 1-0 defeat over Altona Magic, Springvale White Eagles suffered their fourth straight loss with a 2-1 scoreline against Essendon Royals, Preston Lions beat Heidelberg United 1-0, and Fawkner Blues also won 1-0 against the Melbourne Knights.
