THE new Sunshine outdoor pool and children’s splash play area was the cherry on top of the list of achievements by Sunshine Residents and Ratepayers Association (SunRRA) members for the year.
SunRRA, which was formed three years ago, held its second annual general meeting on 21 November and re-elected Darlene Reilly as president.
Ms Reilly said SunRRA had grown and would continue to grow its profile not only within in the community, but further afield.
“The last year has seen many achievements but the cherry on top would have to be the new Sunshine outdoor pool and children’s splash play area where we contributed to the lobbying and outcome,” she said.
“The fight for an outdoor replacement pool being the catalyst for a number of residents and ratepayer to form SunRRA.
“After three years of fierce lobbying, pestering, nagging, cajoling, threatening, yelling and a lot of letter writing I feel we have been a major contributor to a move away from an adversarial approach by council to SunRRA and the community to a more open and cooperative change within council.
“We now enjoy a good working relationship with the current ruling faction that means we have a voice that will be heard and not shut out without reason or due respect.”
Ms Reilly said SunRRA now has the opportunity to put forward ideas, plans or requests that will be heard with the possibility of balanced appraisal and respect for our community’s needs, something lacking previously.
Other changes to the SunRRA 10 member strong committee include two new members Susan Hatzoglou and Gwen Goedecke.
