Big turnout

PRINCESSES, pirates, witches, Batman, transformers, ninja turtles and Dorothy the Dinosaur gathered at the Parkwood Green Primary School last Wednesday.
Students dressed as their favourite book characters for the officially opening of the school’s new library.
The school opened in 2004, including a library, but did not have any resources, vice principal Tanya Sealey said.
Funds of $163,000 were made available by the Federal Government as part of the Investing in Our Schools initiative.
The school council added about $30,000 to the project with the money used to buy books, shelving, library operating systems, computers and audio visual equipment.
The school librarian, Francis Eames, now has more than 15,000 books to offer the 654 students at the school.

“While our school has grown from strength to strength over recent years, we have lacked a well resourced, modern and up-to-date library and research centre,” principal Eric Sealey said.
“Through the generosity of the Federal Government and the Investing in Our Schools program, our children now have an exciting new space that will capture their imaginations and allow them to build the skills that the need to succeed in the future.”
Senator Rod Kemp officially opened the library, with the help of school captains Brooke Muscat and Alex Day.
