Big prizes up for grabs

A GREEN makeover home assessment will be the major prize at Brimbank Festival this Sunday along with a worm farm and a compost bin in a competition run by Brimbank City Council.
The green makeover is valued at $300, the worm farm at $60 and the compost bin $50.
Besides being entertained by Brimbank youth in the Brimbank Idol competition finals, festival goers can pick up useful tips on recycling, water and energy conservation as well as how to volunteer to help look after local conservation sites.
Brimbank mayor Margaret Giudice said the theme of this year’s festival was the environment.
The festival will be a waste-wise event with plenty of recycling bins and smokers poles to help keep the environment clean.
Visitors can check out a range of displays including the Energy Explorer, ACE Stormwater trailer, Our Planet Roving Entertainment and a solar truck.
“Our great Brimbank Festival is a wonderful way to reinforce the environment message,” Cr Giudice said.
“I’d like to encourage residents to visit the council marquee at the festival to check out the information available, see the displays and try for the prizes.”
A range of council departments will gather under a branded marquee to offer visitors a consolidated customer service experience.
Visitors to the environment and waste stall can see some interesting displays.
A sustainable home display will showcase energy saving items for the home, waste wise bags and water saving items.
Worm farms and compost bins will also be on display, as well as a display of material that can be recycled.
Visitors will be able to get information about Brimbank Council’s IT department, Youth and Family Services, City Development and Statutory Services, Libraries and Learning and the Corporate Communications Unit.
Anyone who visits the council stalls and gets an attendance card stamped will be entered in the draw to win one of the three environmentally friendly prizes.
