Plaque recognises

POP star Kylie Minogue may have been immortalised in a new statue at Docklands but St Albans can now boast its own, with the installation of a plaque at St Albans Square – a tribute to Brimbank’s homegrown soccer heroes Kevin Muscat and Mark Viduka.
The plaque was unveiled yesterday by Melbourne Victory captain Kevin Muscat and Brimbank mayor Margaret Giudice.
Muscat, who has captained Australia at every age level, is best known to Melbourne sports fans as the player who scored the winning penalty against Uruguay at the MCG.
Viduka’s international soccer career began in 1995 and he has represented Australia 37 times with six goals.
He was the captain of the Socceroos at the recent World Cup in Germany.
A consultation morning was held at St Albans Square last September.
Attended by more than 300 local residents, 89 per cent of those surveyed felt the council should publicly honour Brimbank’s homegrown soccer heroes in some way.
The plaque will be permanently installed in December.
