FOOTSCRAY Community Legal Centre will host a Bring Your Bills Day this Thursday to help residents who feel they’ve been victimised or targeted by electricity retailers.
An FCLC spokesperson said it had found that many people had been targeted by utility retailers over the past few months and they often signed an electricity or gas contract due to pressure from salespeople or without them even realising that they had agreed to change.
“One of the tactics the salespeople use is to say that people need to verify their details and then get them to answer questions on the phone. The people then find that their accounts have been changed,” the spokesperson said.
“Another tactic used by the retailers is to tell people to show them their bills so that they can show them how to save money. The retailers then take the details from the accounts and transfer them.”
Other Bring Your Bills days will be held in Sunshine, St Albans and Laverton over the next few months.
The Bring Your Bills Day will run out of Braybrook Community Centre, 107-139 Churchill Ave, Braybrook, from 10am until 2pm.
