State to help

SUNSHINE residents will have better access to Buckingham Reserve after the State Government allocated $200,000 towards a footbridge project.
Brimbank City Council applied to the State Government for assistance with the construction of a footbridge over Kororoit Creek in West Sunshine between the end of Cannon St and Buckingham Reserve.
Brimbank mayor Sam David said this was marvellous news and would be a substantial step forward towards creating better pedestrian and cycling connections for residents in Sunshine and Sunshine West.
“A footbridge in this area will improve local access for pedestrians and cyclists to the nearby parks, shops, public transport, schools, and walking and cycling paths in the area,” Cr David said.
“Overall, the construction of a footbridge will help make our community more connected and accessible, enabling more people to walk and cycle in their daily travel. This will be a great result for everyone and particularly for West Sunshine.”
The total estimated cost of the construction of a footbridge stands at $375,000 and preliminary investigations and design work will now start on the project.
Funds had been allocated from the current council budget towards the footbridge project with the possibility of additional funding in the next financial year.
