Council backs Maribyrnong River plan

BRIMBANK City Council has endorsed the Maribyrnong River Valley Vision and Design Guidelines: Final Report which sets out a blueprint for Maribyrnong Valley across the cities of Brimbank, Maribyrnong, Melbourne, Moonee Valley and Hume.
The council gave in principle support to the project in July last year.
The project is an initiative of the cities of Brimbank, Maribyrnong, Melbourne, Moonee Valley and Hume, Melbourne Water, Parks Victoria, the Department of Sustainability and Environment and the Department of Planning and Community Development.
The aim of the project was to:
· Strengthen current policies and review the adequacy of planning controls relating to the Maribyrnong River
· Develop a shared vision for the Maribyrnong River Valley
· Establish guidelines for the future development and protection of the river.
· Identify priorities for further actions within the river valley.
· Facilitate the development of a regional system of governance to ensure a consistent and co-ordinated approach to planning for the river.
Brimbank mayor Margaret Giudice said the Maribyrnong River was one of the most important and recognised natural assets in the city.
