SUNSHINE resident Ken Mooney is being taken to court by Brimbank City Council for refusing to pay a fine.
Mr Mooney is due to appear at the Sunshine Magistrates’ Court on 1 March.
He was fined $100 during a council meeting in Sunshine last July after yelling out when the council decided to pull the plug on the Sunshine Swim and Leisure Centre project.
A council spokeswoman told Star that Mr Mooney was “issued a penalty for failing to obey a direction of the chair … and has until the end of February to pay”.
Mr Mooney, a local of 33 years, told Star he refused to pay the fine because he was “exercising” his right of free speech.
