SYDENHAM Station car park was closed recently for 24 hours, only a week after it was opened.
A Brimbank City Council spokesman said the car park was closed from midnight on 1 September to midnight 2 September for air quality testing.
The spokesman said because the site was once a quarry, such testing would be carried out on a regular basis in the future to ensure health standards were met for the safety of car park users.
He said the car park would only be closed on off-peak times such as Sundays.
Councillor Ken Capar said he was concerned about how the closure went about as council staff only notified councillors late on the Friday afternoon before the event.
CLARIFICATION: Star (28 August) said the Department of Infrastructure approved the reopening of the Watergardens Railway Station car park. That is incorrect. Brimbank City Council opened the car park in line with findings from an independent environmental auditor.
