Respite boost

PARENTS of children with disabilities, particularly autism, could benefit from a Brimbank City Council proposal to boost respite care funding by $90,000.
Issues surrounding the number of months Brimbank parents have been on the council’s waiting list for respite care were raised at the council’s February meeting.
There were 13 children aged two to 16 with autism on the waiting list for respite care services.
A report to be tabled at tonight’s meeting recommends services receive an additional $90,000 in the next budget, which would increase the capacity to deliver respite services by 40 per cent.
The parents who raised the issues will be participating in a forum hosted by the council on 17 May at Victoria University with the aim of making a submission to the Autism State Plan.
