AN EAST Keilor man has been charged over the aggravated robbery and assault of an elderly woman in Toorak last month.
Robert Stanimirovic, 38, appeared briefly in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court where he was remanded in custody to reappear on 13 October.
He faces charges including robbery, theft, intentionally causing serious injury and possession of cannabis.
Detectives from Moorabbin’s Embona Taskforce, acting on a tip-off from the Crime Stoppers hotline, arrested Stanimirovic in Maidstone on 17 July.
It’s alleged the Keilor man assaulted the 93-year old pensioner as she was walking along Toorak road about 3.30pm on 8 June, pushing her to the ground and snatching her handbag before fleeing.
The woman was taken by ambulance to Cabrini Hospital in Malvern, where she was treated for shock and minor injuries before being released later that day.
If convicted, Stanimirovic faces a maximum penalty of 20 years’ jail for the assault.
