COMMENTS criticising the conduct of Brimbank City Council and its new facilities and reserves allocation policy have reached the State Minister for Local Government, Richard Wynne.
But a spokesperson for the minister said the government would not become involved in a “trial by media”.
Mr Wynne confirmed that he had received correspondence regarding the policy and subsequent concerns raised by both councillors and the community and due process would be followed to investigate the matters.
“I have received correspondence raising issues to do with Brimbank Council and according to the clear process in such circumstances instructed my department to look at these claims,” the minister said.
“The government will not comment on allegations made publicly on these issues.
“If local residents or others have concerns that the Local Government Act has been breached they should raise the matter with Local Government Victoria.”
The minister would not divulge a time line or details of the investigation.
The community reserves and allocations policy has stirred emotions in the local community, with allegations of political branch stacking at one of the reserves.
More than 400 residents turned out at the council’s ordinary meeting in support of clubs that may lose their home grounds under the new policy.
