JESSIE Tavrou has never considered herself to be a great beauty.
The 19-year-old Sunshine West resident insists she has always been more of a “dork”.
An engineering student at Swinburne University, Jessie does not spend a lot of time in front of the mirror and, like most teenagers, her outfits usually consist of “whatever’s clean”.
But whatever her style, it seems certain Jessie has what it takes to make it in the fashion industry.
The unassuming teenager’s unique look has caught the eye of talent scouts from Girlfriend Magazine who have invited her to strut her stuff on the catwalk this week.
Jessie is one of hundreds of hopefuls who will battle it out in this year’s Girlfriend Model Search competition.
After entering on a whim, Jessie said she was shocked to make it into the contest.
“I didn’t really believe it at first,” she said.
“I thought it might have been one of my friends playing a prank on me.
“I kind of consider myself to be more of a dork than model material.
“If I was on the show Beauty and the Geek, I’m pretty sure I’d be one of the geeks.”
Although she hoped to win the competition, the modest teenager said she would not be too disappointed if she failed to impress the judges.
“Modelling’s a very tough industry.
“You get more rejection in that industry than anything else and having someone scrutinise you is part of that.
“You can’t let it worry you, because you’ll never get anywhere if you take every criticism to heart.”
The 19th annual Girlfriend Rimmel Model Search will be held at Knox Shopping Centre this Friday from 9am.
