STAGE one of upgrades to Calder Rise Neighbourhood Park were completed last week as part of Brimbank Council’s implementation of its Creating Better Parks Policy and Plan.
The first stage of upgrades to the park cost $175,000 and saw the installation of new picnic tables, seating, a bin, drinking fountain, gravel and concrete paving as well as new play equipment.
The Brimbank community has been calling on the council for more parks, gardens and open spaces but operations and engineering general manager Leigh Harrison said the better parks strategy was delivering attractive parks for community use.
“Council’s Creating Better Parks Policy and Plan was adopted in May 2008 and to date has resulted in 17 neighbourhood park upgrades, four suburban park upgrades and this district park upgrade,” he said.
“The works are the beginning of the transformation of the Brimbank park network, and have been excitedly received by community members who now enjoy attractive parks that are a focal point for their surrounding community.
The Packard Street Reserve Suburban Park in Keilor was recently opened and works on stage one of the Lakes Reserve District Park upgrade are nearing completion.
Council has invested more than $2 million for park upgrades in the 2009/2010 budget.
