Councillor in the clear

FORMER Brimbank Councillor Geraldine Brooks has been cleared of misconduct by Local Government Victoria.
Ms Brooks last month revealed she was under investigation for an incident which occurred during her time on the failed Brimbank Council.
She also divulged details of an earlier investigation, which followed complaints she had brought the council into disrepute by calling for a re-election.
Following her interview with Star, Ms Brooks was notified in writing that all charges against her had been dismissed.
The Ardeer resident told Star she was relieved that investigations had been dropped but remained angry that she had come under scrutiny in the first place.
“It’s very frustrating when you know that you’ve done nothing wrong and you have to defend yourself and go through this whole process,” Ms Brooks said.
“The whole thing was so farcical and jaw-dropping.
”I couldn’t believe that I was being accused and I’m relieved that I don’t have to think about it any more.”
The State Government has so far refused to identify councillors who are being investigated following the Ombudsman’s report into the council.
A spokesman told Star the government would eventually name councillors in breach of the Local Government Act, after investigations concluded.
