Butler makes it two in a row

SUNBURY Cycling Club rider James Butler made it two in a row when he won Footscray Cycling Club’s A Grade criterium racing at the Victoria University Track in Hoppers Crossing on Thursday night.
The 19-year-old Gisborne resident took the bunch sprint and also led the points in the point score race, just ahead of the ever improving 17-year-old Williamstown lad Josh Zammit.
B Grade’s race saw veteran rider Rod Stormonth do a power of work on the front of the bunch, driving for lap after lap, with the lads from St Kilda CC spending quite a few laps up the road before the bunch brought all riders back together.
Young St Kilda rider Clive Silcock took the bunch sprint narrowly from Andrew Mapstone and Ben Costin and is on his way to A Grade this week.
The combined race for C and D Grades saw some solid pace-making from Tim Robertson and Bruce Boulton, with Essendon resident Boulton taking the bunch sprint in C Grade and veteran rider Dennis Hobbs taking D-Grade’s sprint in a welcome return to racing after a serious crash left him with a broken clavicle.
