THEY’RE the little facts making a big impact at Footscray Community Arts Centre.
Every day at lunchtime, Footscray Community Arts Centre tutor Alister Karl buys a bottle of Spring Valley juice and reads the “liddle fact” on the inside of the cap.
For example, there’s liddle fact number 158: An office desk has 400 times more bacteria than a toilet.
The facts have become a point of discussion with the Footscray Community Arts Centre staff – now they want to bring the same fun and playfulness to families.
And so, the daily ritual has turned into a free exhibition at the centre as part of the Big West Festival.
Sixteen artists will reveal liddle facts in their works, which are currently on display at the Roslyn Smorgon Gallery until 16 December. The exhibition explores the limitless possibilities a fact can bring – from the length of a giraffe’s tongue, to the number of brains a leech possesses.
Mr Karl couldn’t be happier.
“It used to be a bit of a joke,” he said.
“They’re quite fun little things and I decided I wanted to do something with them and it’s bloomed into a show.
“The theme for Big West is Uncontained and we thought it was nice to connect it to these bottles that contain things and when you open them, they’re uncontained.”
