A NEW supermarket in the heart of Footscray will employ more than 135 local residents.
Footscray’s Supa IGA opens today at the corner of Albert and Paisley streets and boasts a customised retail offering for the local Asian, Eastern European, Middle Eastern and East and West African communities.
The new store features a 30-foot live seafood tank which includes the widest range of live, fresh seafood in any supermarket in Australia. Mobile seafood tanks will also house a range of abalone, sea cucumber and mussels.
There is also a unique hot duck counter adding to the in-store market feel and East meets West atmosphere.
The store also has multilingual signage (English, Mandarin, Arabic, Amharic, Vietnamese), a sushi bar, florist, ice cream bar and in-store coffee shop.
The store is co-owned and operated by Lyle Bullock and Max Riao.
