CHILDREN from the western suburbs who make use of the MacKillop Family Services have participated in a major exhibition of artwork at Melbourne Central.
Graham McKern, MacKillop’s director of development, said more than 80 children and young people contributed to the project called ‘Soul Art: feelings beyond words’ and 23 of those contributors were from the West.
“The exhibition provides an opportunity for these kids, many of whom have difficulty verbalising their thoughts and emotions, to express themselves through art,” he said.
He said the paintings expressed feelings such as fear, bravery, love, hope and fun.
The exhibition was opened by City of Melbourne’s Lord Mayor John So and acclaimed Melbourne artist Mirka Mora.
Ms Mora will sell a painting she undertook for the exhibition to raise funds to help MacKillop Family Services.
The exhibition will run from 18 September to 29 September, on the Level 1 Walkway at Melbourne Central, between Myer and Melbourne Central, corner LaTrobe and Swanston streets, Melbourne.
