INDUSTRIALISTS have welcomed an $11.5 million upgrade to Fitzgerald Rd in Laverton North.
“It’s something we’ve been waiting for for a long time,” said Barry Harvey, chairman of the Werribee Industrial Liaison Development Committee and owner of a storage company in the area.
The fourlane road is a major northsouth link and every day carries 22,000 vehicles.
The upgrade will seal and divide a 1.8km stretch from Kororoit Creek Rd and Dohertys Rd.
The length of Fitzgerald Rd will eventually be duplicated to four lanes from Kororoit Creek Rd to the Western Ring Rd.
Bicycle lanes have also been added in both directions.
Mr Harvey said he now wanted to see a similar upgrade to Dohertys Rd from Grieve Pde to the Princes Fwy interchange.
“That is one that’s desperately needed and was supposed to have happened years ago,” he said.
“Once they’ve done that, they’ve done some good work.”
