THE National Broadband Network is coming to town.
Footscray residents will have access to a world class internet service, thanks to its inclusion in the latest round of the National Broadband Network roll out.
This means 8300 Footscray residents will have access to fast and affordable broadband services.
Gellibrand MP Nicola Roxon said NBN had selected Footscray for inclusion in its latest round, and work would begin within the next 12 months.
It is estimated that the service will take about a year to install.
“We are pleased to announce the addition of these new locations to our work programme. The job of upgrading Victoria’s telecommunications infrastructure is well and truly underway,” NBN Co chief operations officer Ralph Steffens said.
“The rollout footprint in Victoria will continue to increase as we expand out from those areas where construction work is already taking place.”
The fibre network has so far been rolled out and activated in areas passing 18,200 premises on the mainland and in Tasmania.
Telecommunications and internet service providers are currently delivering services to customers in Brunswick, with work underway in Bacchus Marsh and South Morang.
Mr Steffens said a key focus for NBN Co over the next three years would also be on building the core network, including points where retail telecommunications and internet service providers connect to the NBN, and links between these sites.
