A WYNDHAM councillor has denounced the public “politicisation” of next week’s contest to be Wyndham’s next mayor.
“I think it’s way too political already,” said Truganina Ward councillor Leigh Barrett. “This discussion is something that should be done internally by councillors.”
Three council newcomers have put up their hands, including incumbent mayor Shane Bourke and councillors Kim McAliney and Bob Fairclough.
Councillor Cynthia Manson said she had also been interested, but did not have sufficient support.
It is rare for a councillor to serve two consecutive terms as mayor.
Wyndham’s new mayor will be decided the last week of November and announced at a formal meeting on 29 November.
