Young Devils provide run

A NEW-look North Footscray finished full of running to record an impressive 13-point win over Coburg Districts in their Western Region Division Two round one match on Saturday.
The Devils booted six goals to three in the final term with a very inexperienced team.
They blooded two first-gamers with Dwayne Brown and Brent Williams both impressing on debut.
Brown showed plenty of dash on the wing while Williams presented well up forward.
“I always felt comfortable enough that we should be able to run over the top of them,” North Footscray coach David Battistella said.
“We’re still going really young at the moment, which we started to do two or three years ago.
“I think the young legs are probably what got us over the line in the end.
“They just didn’t stop running and ran all day.
“It was telling in the last quarter when we finished strong and to be a part of a high-scoring game was good for our guys as well.”
Paul Mazzohan also had an influence in defence for the Devils while Ash Lewis gave his rovers an armchair ride in the ruck.
Kane Blair was also a prominent contributor.
“We have a very young side and that will give us a lot of self-belief,” Battistella said.
“To be involved in a high-scoring game is also good for us and we want to be as attacking as we can this year.
“When you have a few kids playing you just encourage them to run and will continue to do that this year.”
In other Division Two matches Albanvale booted a staggering 43.18.276 to crush Brunswick Power, which could manage just 6.6.42.
The win is one of the biggest in the club’s history.
North Sunshine had a thrilling three-point win over Braybrook, Deer Park thumped the Western Magpies by 143 points and Sunshine Heights toppled the Wyndhamvale Falcons by 49 points.
