TWO women whose mothers have died will be planting trees this Mother’s Day to remember their mums.
Trees for Mum founders Deena Raphael and Lauren Adlam began the event as a way to remember their own mothers.
They have been delighted by the response they have received over the past five years from across Australia.
“We wanted to offer people a positive way to celebrate life and remember a very special person,” Lauren said.
“Mother’s Day can be difficult when you don’t have a mum to share it with. The planting sites are always happy, positive places, and it’s a really rewarding experience.”
The event offers motherless sons and daughters a way to remember their mum, and celebrate the beauty of life, by planting a tree in her honour.
Trees for Mum will be held this Mother’s Day, Sunday 13 May, at Werribee West Drainage Reserve in Wyndham Vale (between Heaths and Ballan roads) from 9am until 12noon.
Participants must register the day before. Planting a tree is completely free but donations are encouraged.
All proceeds go direct to Trees for Mum’s charity partner, Good Grief, a non-profit organisation dedicated to programs aimed at dealing with grief, loss and change.
The Trees for Mum program, which started as a small event in 2002, has grown into a national occasion with more than 8000 participants planting trees so far.
More than 25 sites are confirmed around the country for this year’s event.
