WATER conservation is on everyone’s minds these days and the Wyndham City Council is adopting another initiative to save the precious commodity.
Water tanks will be installed at the Price Reserve Pavilion and the Werribee South Foreshore public toilets – at a cost of about $61,000 – so drinking water is no longer being flushed down the drain.
The outlay is part of $300,000 the council has secured from the Department of Regional and Rural Development for environmental initiatives.
Mayor Shane Bourke said the installation of the tanks demonstrates the council’s commitment to saving water and the issue was a high priority.
“Wyndham residents are some of the best in the state at saving water and many have already implemented water-reducing measures in their homes,” he said.
“The council has already started several programs to cut down on water usage and educate residents, including using recycled water on street trees, showerhead exchange days and the Wyndham Water Wise month.”
At the Price Reserve Pavilion, two 3000 litre slimline water tanks will be installed under the front verandah and connected to the roof gutters to collect rain to supply the toilets’ flushing system.
The tanks will be screened off with coloured steel cladding for protection and security.
At the Werribee South Foreshore public toilet, two 1500 litre slimline tanks will be installed.
Again, the tanks will be connected to the roof gutters to supply the toilets’ flushing system.
The tanks are expected to be installed before the end of the year.
