Car parks choke

By Denise Deason
WYNDHAM City Councillors want more off-road car parking around the Werribee and Hoppers Crossing railway stations.
These car parks are overflowing every day as the population increases and petrol prices soar, influencing people to take the train to work.
The council decided at its meeting last week to write to the Interface Council Group requesting that it seek a commitment from the State Government to construct more commuter car-parking areas at railway stations.
It is also asking for the construction of satellite car parks linked directly to the stations by public transport buses.
Cr Bob Fairclough, who moved the motion, said he had received many complaints about the existing car parks becoming full, forcing people to look elsewhere to leave their vehicles.
“This is a really big issue in the community,” he said.
“At the Werribee station, people are having to park so far away – in residential streets and even on nature strips, where they get booked. People who live around there say it’s chaos.
“At Hoppers Crossing, there is a spill-over car park, but it’s not sealed.”
