RESIDENTS of Edward Street, Werribee, are protesting at the noise made by their speed humps.
Their concerns were echoed earlier this year by neighbouring residents in Wattle Avenue, who claimed they were forced to move their bedrooms to the backs of their homes because of the noise.
But at its last meeting, the Wyndham City Council voted to ignore residents’ complaints and retain a rubber speed cushion on the street, rather than replace it with a less noisy concrete hump.
It also voted to widen a 1.6-metre-wide speed hump to 1.9-metres, a move that is being phased in around the city.
A report to the council from temporary senior traffic engineer Goran Bacelic stated that similar humps along Warringa Crescent had not generated similar complaints over the past three years.
It also indicated the safety improvements with the present traffic humps were more important than the noise concerns of residents.
