ENVIRONMENT Minister John Thwaites opened Werribee Open Range Zoo’s new hippopotamus enclosure last Sunday.
The hippos’ new home features deep pools, sandy beaches, grassy meadows and state-of-the-art behind-the-scenes facilities.
“Kubu River Hippos is the centrepiece that immerses you in an African experience,” Mr Thwaites said.
“The experience highlights a changing approach to conservation in Africa, showing visitors a community that is supporting itself and wildlife conservation through ecotourism.”
