Century follows four-wicket haul

By Adrian Ceddia
THE all-round talents of Craig Sheedy lifted Williamstown to a comfortable victory over Moorabbin in the Victorian Sub District Cricket Association on Saturday.
After putting his side in a powerful position with four wickets on the first day last week, Sheedy showed he could be just as lethal with the willow as he smacked an unbeaten 110.
His innings, and a handy cameo from Cameron Smith (31), helped Williamstown to 9/206 in response to Moorabbin’s 165.
The win lifted the first XI to fourth on the South/West ladder with two wins from the opening three matches.
Also on the winners’ list on Saturday was Yarraville, which had its own heroes on the second day of the match against Elsternwick.
After Leigh Holmes’ half-century led Yarraville to 207 in the first innings, Alex Hewet (5/46) and Tim Mcrae (4/30) combined to knock over Elsternwick for 180.
The win was the second in a row for the first XI after a round one loss to ladder leader Melton.
Altona kept in touch with the competition leaders after a narrow first innings win over Ormond.
Altona made 9/151 in its first innings, headlined by 48 runs from Mark Pildich, before some brilliant bowling restricted the opposition to 146 in a thrilling tussle.
Gordon McFarlane collected 5/21 and David Wolfe grabbed 4/50 off 21 overs to complete a confidence-boosting win.
Altona got in some batting practice in the remaining overs on day two, finishing 4/59.
Werribee rounded out a positive weekend for teams in the West, comfortably defeating Kingston Saints by 46 runs.
Adam Alifraco was the hero of the match, accumulating 54 runs with the bat before collecting six wickets on the second day.
Werribee made 234 with the bat before restricting the Saints to 188.
