Mayor looks ahead

WYNDHAM mayor Kim McAliney has many plans for the municipality in 2008.
“Wyndham is an exciting and vibrant city,” she said. “Unlike many other urban councils, we have a unique opportunity to plan multi-million-dollar buildings, community centres, libraries and roads, while maintaining and preserving our existing assets and heritage.”
With the municipality’s population at about 126,000 and growing by 6000 people a year, there were many challenges ahead. Cr McAliney said her focus as mayor this year would include:
• Working as part of Leadwest, the new regional body established by councils to foster and undertake actions to support sustainable growth and development of the region;
• Continuing to support the work being done on the Roads to Wyndham Cottrell Street-Werribee Street advocacy campaign to relieve traffic congestion;
• Driving the implementation of the council’s 10-year plan and the revised municipal strategic statement; and
• Continuing to advocate for the chronic shortage of mental health services in Wyndham to be addressed.
