WYNDHAM City Council has welcomed the State Government’s $300,000 contribution to the Tarneit Community Centre project.
The funding is a result of the council’s successful grant application through the Department of Victorian Communities ‘Building Stronger Communities’ grants program and will be used to help fund the $4.6 million project.
Wyndham mayor Shane Bourke said the council found out the grant application was successful four days after purchasing a hectare for the centre from the Dennis Family Corporation. “These two milestone events have amplified Council and community excitement about the project," Cr Bourke said.
The Tarneit Community Centre will be located on the south-east corner of Leakes Road and Sunset Views Boulevard and will house two kindergartens, two maternal and child health centres, a community hall, community meeting space and staff offices.
The Centre design will also allow for a branch library and learning centre which will provide the growing communities of Tarneit and Truganina with access to library services without having to travel into the CBD or Hoppers Crossing.
The Centre will be constructed in two stages – the first beginning January next year, and stage two will begin in 2016.
