SELF-appointed barbecue experts are flexing their tongs in anticipation of the third annual Heathdale BBQ competition.
Vi Tuxworth, last year’s winner, will defend her grand champion title, which she won with Hawaiian-themed specialities.
Competitors are invited to begin registering now.
Celebrity chef Gabriel Gate will decide this year’s champion.
The increasingly popular cook-off last year drew a crowd of about 2500 spectators and dozens of teams from across Victoria.
Stuart Wainman, manager of the Mitre 10 store in Werribee, has taken up the challenge in 2006.
Contestants may enter as either professional or amateur.
The event will be held in the Glen Orden wetlands on 29 October, and is a project of the Heathdale Neighbourhood Renewal Association.
