WYNDHAMVALE, Glenorden and Deer Park continue to set the pace in Division Two of the Western Region Football League after round five was completed on Saturday.
All three teams celebrated their fifth wins in a row and remain unbeaten in the early stages of the season.
While the Falcons and Lions won comfortably, Glenorden was made to work for the four points when it met North Footscray away from home.
It took a supreme goalkicking performance from Craig Rosenzweig to separate the teams, the spearhead booting eight goals for the afternoon.
Rosenzweig roared into action in the last, booting all four of Glenorden’s goals to see the team home by a single goal.
Deer Park was also challenged in its clash with Coburg Districts, but pulled away late to record a 36-point win.
Scores were level at the main break, before the Lions piled on 10 goals to four in the second half to win untroubled.
Wyndhamvale did its percentage no harm when it visited Brunswick Power, the ladder leader winning comfortably by 87 points.
West Footscray stayed in the top four following a massive 96-point triumph over Gladstone Park, the victory set up by a blistering nine-goal opening term.
The usual culprits were in form up forward for both sides, with Steven Lane booting five for the Roosters and Heath Shephard four for the Burra.
Sunshine Heights stayed on the pace with a strong 57-point win in a high-scoring match against North Sunshine, despite trailing by two points at three-quarter time.
And David Cavanagh booted 10 goals in Albanvale’s thumping of Western Magpies by 231 points.
The Cobras kicked an amazing 36 goals for the afternoon while keeping the Magpies goalless all day.
