Residents a little rosier with nursery proposal

ROSE Grange residents say they feel a little better about a proposal to build a trade supply nursery in their neighbourhood following mediation talks last week.
Several changes have been proposed to the initial plan, including moving the nursery further north to Leakes Rd and away from quiet residential streets.
Christine Collie, who lives on Rebecca Promenade where the business was first slated to be built, said residents must now wait to see if the changes are formalised at future meetings.
PlantMark, a national nursery group, has applied to build the one-hectare centre as a temporary venture until a shopping centre is built.
It is to be aimed mainly at commercial landscapers, wholesalers and developers.
The nursery was initially proposed on the south-east corner of a 13-hectare parcel of land bordered by Leakes and Derrimut Rds.
The now-vacant land has been earmarked for a shopping centre once the population of Tarneit sufficiently increases.
Andrew Elsbury, secretary of the Rose Grange Residents Association, said if the changes did not occur to the nursery’s original plans, residents would continue to fight.
“We hope the proponent sees reason and understands that a facility of this type is not appropriate in its present form in our neighbourhood.”
