REIGNING Royal Victorian Bowls Association Premier Division champion Altona has its first win of the new season after a pleasing return to form on Saturday.
Altona was a comfortable winner over Essendon 14/105 to 4/85, taking its early season tally to one win and two losses.
The win was highlighted by a breathtaking performance from Paul Dorgan’s rink, which dominated proceedings to win 39-17.
Nick McIntyre’s rink was the other winner on the day for Altona, scoring 25-11.
Yarraville/Footscray came back to earth in round three following a crushing defeat at the hands of Melbourne.
Both sides were undefeated coming into the match, but Melbourne was too good all over the green and finished 46 shots ahead, 17/115 to 1/69.
Wayne Roberts’ rink was the only combination to save face during the afternoon for Yarraville/ Footscray, levelling proceedings with Russ Green Junior’s rink 19 apiece.
In other Premier Division results, Clayton defeated Darebin by 25 shots, Glen Eira/McKinnon got the better of Moonee Ponds by 26 shots and Bundoora remained undefeated with a 24-shot win over Lalor.
In Division One, Werribee RSL leapt to sole ownership of top spot after three rounds following a comfortable 19-shot win over Rosamond.
After a first round win, Rosamond has lost two games on the trot and sits in the middle of the table.
In Section Two, Newport lost its third match in a row, this time to West Coburg by 12 shots.
In Division Two, Williamstown, Footscray Park and Hoppers Crossing all picked up wins, while Altona Sports Club and Maribyrnong Park were left to think about next round.
