Albanvale defends top start

ALBANVALE kept its unbeaten start to the Western Region Football League division two season intact with a 34-point win over Deer Park on Saturday.
Deer Park was completely outplayed for most of the match before finishing with a wet sail to put some respectability on the scoreboard.
It was Albanvale’s fifth consecutive victory.
They held a healthy 31-point advantage at the main change and extended that to 52 by three quarter time thanks to a 5.5 to 2.2 quarter.
Adam Borg and Sam Mitchell were causing headaches for Deer Park with the latter finishing the match with four goals.
However, Deer Park finished the match full of running and will surprisingly take some momentum into next week’s match against Sunshine Heights.
They piled on 8.1 to 5.1 in their best quarter of footy so far this year, which will give them plenty of confidence.
Steven Rizzo was outstanding, booting five goals, while Anthony Patamisi also ran the game out well. Albanvale won 18.16.124 to Deer Park 13.12.90.

WESTERN Magpies broke the ice for their first win of the Western Region Football League division two season on Saturday with an 18-point win over Brunswick Power.
The Magpies and the Power both went into the match having not tasted victory so far this season, but the Magpies rose to the occasion better. The match was an arm wrestle in the first half with the Magpies holding a seven-point lead at the half time break.
Power lifted in the third quarter with Eric Edwards dominating and Frederick Norris winning plenty of the ball to be 10 points up heading into the final quarter.
Magpies coach Steve Bourke asked his players for a big effort at three-quarter time and he got it through Andrew McAlindon, Russell Garvey and Sheldon Bryan.
They rallied to boot 5.5 to 1.1 in the last term and record a sorely needed 14.13.97 to 11.13.79 triumph.

WEST Footscray didn’t have it all its own way during its five-goal win over North Footscray. There were only five points in the match heading into the final term before West’s class shone through.
North Sunshine recorded a 31-point win over Wyndhamvale Falcons after trailing at half time.
Sunshine Heights kicked clear of Braybrook to post a 24.19.163 to 12.8.80 win.
The Coburg DistrictS and Gladstone Park match was abandoned due to ground conditions.
