LIBERALLeader Ted Baillieu came to grips with local issues during a whirlwind visit to Werribee last Thursday.
Mr Baillieu had lunch at the Civic Centre and visited the police station, where he had a meeting with Inspector Shane Dowling.
However, the Opposition Leader did not outline the election promises suggested before the visit by Mark Rose, the Liberal candidate for Tarneit, Wyndham councillor and policeman.
Mr Baillieu said, following a discussion with Insp Dowling, that 48 police personnel were doing the job of 90.
He also said that police had provided feedback saying they were unable to patrol the streets because they were trying to perform the job with a skeleton staff.
Cr Rose agreed the station was “grossly undermanned” and was 40 short on the payroll.
“And where is the $6 million set aside 18 months ago for the second police station?” he asked.
