Albion crushes Vikings

ALBION spoiled Altona’s first outing in the Western Region Football League’s Division One competition with a crushing 83-point victory at J.R. Parsons Reserve.
Aaron James dominated proceedings with 11 goals, his tally eclipsing the Vikings’ final score of 62.
Altona was competitive in the first quarter but was blown away by a seven-goal-to-nil second term before trailing by 41 points at half-time.
Bradley Krygger was the only multiple goalkicker for the Vikings with two, while 20 of Albion’s 22 goals were shared between five players.
In another blow-out, Spotswood flogged a disappointing Sunshine by 73 points after a blistering 11-goal third quarter.
The Woodsmen led by just six points at half-time before launching a second half assault which yielded 15 goals to five.
A highlight for the Kangaroos was the form of Darren Stenhouse, who booted five, while Spotswood had a plethora of goal-scoring options, led by the five-goal hauls of Peter Wilson and Richard Wilson.
Reigning premiers Port Melbourne Colts continued their stellar home form – and their hold over Parkside – to win a close grand final replay by five points.
The Colts controlled the contest to three-quarter time before surviving a late charge from the Magpies to hold on for an important first-up victory.
Parkside had little answer for the heroics of Jason Clarke, who was on fire in the forward line booting seven goals, despite Pat Davis opening his 2006 account with six majors for the Magpies at the other end.
Port led by 22 points at half-time and by 24 at the final change before Parkside finished with five goals to one in the final stanza.
Seddon could manage just five goals for the afternoon and was whipped by Yarraville to the tune of 150 points.
Adam Paterson bagged eight goals for the Tigers, who had the game won at half-time when they led by 59 points.
