THOMAS Carr College is turning 10 years old.
The Tarneit school is now home to more than 1200 students.
It’s quite an accomplishment considering the school started out with portables, donated equipment and fewer than 100 Year 7 students a decade ago.
From those humble beginnings, it has become a thriving secondary school with sister schools in Japan, China and Indonesia.
The school celebrated its first school mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral in term one to mark the 10-year milestone.
For the remainder of the year, organisers are planning other celebrations.
A dinner-dance will be held on 27 May, and a trivia night on 28 July for both current and past families.
A musical performance at the Melbourne Concert Hall on 25 August will showcase the talents of the students.
Principal Paul D’Astoli, who has been at the school since the first days, says the events are wonderful opportunities for all past and present students, families and teachers to celebrate the college’s many achievements over the years.
