A FASHION event that was born and bred in Wyndham will soon enter the most exciting part of its history – finally being accepted as part of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week.
After leaving Werribee for the city late last year, Fashion Awards Australia founder Heather Marcus told Star that the much loved event would attempt to make its mark in the big league.
“This is very exciting for the committee after 13 years of hard work in growing these very prestigious awards,” Ms Marcus said.
Ms Marcus said that the finals of the awards will be held at the Grand Savoy Ballroom in the city Saturday 10 September and would see secondary and TAFE students as well as professional designers showcase their best work.
“The Awards have grown over the last few years and moving to Melbourne will give the Secondary College students much more exposure to the professional designers and the fashion and design industry. It is very exciting for the young designers to work alongside the TAFE and Professional designers,” Ms Marcus said.
“This will give the students a challenge and will recognise the ability of a student who may have little experience and a limited budget yet an unlimited imagination.”
Wyndham will still have a taste of the awards with the announcement that a regional final will be held here on Wednesday 24 August.
Another regional final will be held in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.
Ms Marcus said it was about time the event received the recognition it deserved after 13 years.
“This is a big step for the committee and the committee is working long hours putting everything together to make sure the Awards are extremely successful and that this will contribute to the future development of these young people, wishing to pursue a career in a very difficult industry,” she said.
