Patients, staff evacuated from Mercy

FIRE caused the evacuation of about 25 patients and staff from the Werribee Mercy Hospital early on Friday.
The fire is believed to have started in a patient’s room in the psychiatric unit about 2.15am.
CFA crews from Hoppers Crossing, Point Cook and Werribee attended the blaze, which took just 10 minutes to bring under control.
No staff or patients were injured and the fire was contained to small area.
A spokesman for the hospital said: “All patients and staff are fine.
“There is only a small amount of damage.
“The staff at the Mercy Werribee Psychiatric Unit did an excellent job managing this minor incident.
“There was no risk to staff or patients. It’s business as usual.”
