WITH nothing to lose, Altona and Mildura held nothing back at Mildura Basketball Stadium in round 16 of the Big V Men’s Division One competition.
The Gators getting up by 13 points, 83-70.
Altona, whose form has been the better of the two sides in recent weeks, displayed a strong defensive presence in the first quarter, restricting the dangerous Mildura squad to just 11 points in the opening stanza.
Controlling the game from there on, the Gators withstood a third-quarter rally from the Heat to come away with an impressive win on the road.
Randy Shanklin and James Guljas chipped in 20 and 18 points respectively to lead the Gators while Justin Schafer scored 14 points without a turnover.
For Mildura, Josh Gill needed 30 attempts to rack up a game-high 26 points but played a great all-around game with 10 rebounds, two steals and two assists rounding out his line. Jake Zoch was the only other Heat player to score double-figures with 13 points.
